Painting, Pots, Plants…
My name is Kristie, and I am a painter, potter, avid gardener and major dog lover. At the end of the day, I would say I just like getting my hands dirty. If I can capture even a hint of the beauty found in a budding flower, the cool breeze, or rustling grass, then I’m happy. My artistic roots are in pottery, and I always feel at home behind the wheel. I came upon pastels later when a move required me to pack up my ceramics studio for a time, and I was looking for another creative outlet. The moment I opened that first box of beautiful pastels and began laying down color, I was hooked. I love the long process of pottery and the immediacy of pastels. When I’m not in the garden with my dog, you can find me searching my pastel box for just the right color or praying to the kiln gods that it all turns out okay.
I grew up on Cape Cod, Massachusetts and that will always be home. Today I live and tend my gardens in Medfield, MA. To pay the bills, you’ll find me in front of high school students teaching physics. I’m not sure I’m getting my Newton impression right, but I’m trying. After many years working on a PhD in physics studying echolocation in bats, I can confidently say that I’m in the right place—with my students, doing my best to show them that they can do hard things.
