Painting, Pots, Plants…

My name is Kristie, and I am a potter, painter, avid gardener and major dog lover. At the end of the day, I would say I just like getting my hands dirty. If I can capture just a tiny bit of the magic of a budding flower, cool wind, or rustling grass I’m happy. I’ve got my roots and first love in pottery, and will always feel at home behind the wheel. I came upon pastels later when a move had me packing up my ceramics studio for a time and I was looking for another creative outlet. I was hooked when I opened up that first box of beautiful pastels and started laying down color. I love the long process of pottery and the immediacy of pastels. When I’m not in the garden with my dog, you can find me searching the pastel box for just the right color or praying to the kiln gods that it all turns out okay.

I grew up on Cape Cod, Massachusetts and that will always be home. Today I live and tend my gardens in Medfield, MA. To pay the bills you will see me standing in front high schoolers teaching them the ways of physics. I’m not sure I’m getting my Newton impression right, but I’m trying. After many years working on a PhD in physics studying echolocation in bats, I can confidently say I’m in the right place with my students trying my best to show them they can do hard things.
